A person who laced candy with sleeping medication and distributed them to youngsters at a youth camp in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual offenses against two boys both between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight minors and a grown-up experienced illness at the facility in mid-summer.

The 76-year-old, from that region, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the judicial center on the end of the week.

Yet, he denied one particular crime he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old child.

The accused was kept in jail ahead of a further hearing on late November.

'Treat game'

Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, outlined Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She stated his victims were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer camp which he ran.

The man played a "treat game" with the minors, the legal counsel said, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".

She informed the proceedings Ruben had conducted this practice with the children "over an extended period", and children had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.

She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had worries in July 2025.

Mrs Prior KC continued: "In the summer" his stepson had worries about the situation, with valid cause.

"They resolved" to investigate in the individual's items."

The prosecutor explained items including infant oil, Vaseline and medical needles were found, and his stepchild contacted the police about his worries.

She stated the defendant continued to engage in the "candy game" with six children that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that time," she added.

The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the events.

The legal representative explained the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the stepson called the authorities once more.

She stated the defendant then conducted the "candy game" in a area of five minors.
